Ok, today is going to be even more of a challenge to select the photos for the blog......Zion National Park was amazing! It was another beautiful day in southern Utah and we made the short drive to Zion. There was a small amount of road construction around the 1.1 mile long tunnel through a solid rock wall that leads into the park that caused a couple of short waits, but the views (and the snacks we had packed in the car) made the time pass quickly. Just driving into the visitor center is unbelievably beautiful. We decided to take the hike to the Emerald Pools and it was a good decision! The trail had a red hue all the way up---due to the sand from the red sandstone all around. There were gorgeous trees in all shades of green, yellow, orange and red---the color accentuated by the dark rock back drops. There were actually four different pools of water and a variety  of small water falls on the hike---there were pictures of the falls when the water was flowing much more heavily---beautiful. Forgot to mention  that the sign at the trail-head said to be careful because falls from the edge had resulted in death!!! Not to worry, we were all over the inside edge of the trail!!

I think this is a really good time to be visiting these parks---the crowd is very small and that makes everything much more enjoyable! On our hike today we saw several wild turkeys--at one point they even joined us on the trail! Later we saw some deer beside the road on our way out of the park.

We decided to try 'Cooters' , a very small cafe in Orderville (suburb of Glendale)--it was fine and we were able to learn that the consolidated Valley High school, which is in Ordervile, has had several State Champion girl's basketball teams! Woot!!

Resting on Glendale, Utah...Debbie and John
