Heading home for Holidays

Galveston seawall
boarding the ferry
We have spent the last week crossing across the southern part of the US from Texas to the panhandle of Florida. We drove to Galveston and crossed on a ferry (yes in the RV towing the Jeep!), to the Bolivar Peninsula and spent the night in Beaumont Tx. There were lots of dolphins all along the channel!

The next day we made our way to Breau Bridge Louisiana. We traveled across about 20 miles of elevated freeway over a swamp---I kept thinking I was going to see a huge alligator or a little tiny shack way off in the distance up on stilts!---I did not see either, just an abandoned, rotting fishing boat!

From there we ventured to Pascagoula, Mississipi! I don't suppose any of these small towns sound too familiar!--but they were along our route to Florida! The drive often took us close to the Gulf of Mexico and more often across lots of lakes, rivers and 'swamps"---it was really quite an interesting drive!

We ended this trek in a campground in DeFuniak Springs Florida, where we have left the RV while we travel north to visit family and friends for the Holidays!

We are currently in Bowling Green, KY with ice formed all over our two side mirrors and the possibility of an ice storm to be in our path to Indiana tomorrow---on no!  Hoping to stop and see my sister and brother-in-law tomorrow on our way if weather allows!

I will be taking a break from the blog for a few weeks----see you back in 2011....resting in Bowling Green, Ky.....Debbie and John

Happy Holidays!!!!
